Sharing in August

Sharing a few projects in July and August.

This first post is just the quilt top. Will be quilting this soon. I always loved the Dream Big Dahlia panels, but took my time jumping in. I saw this layout on a quilting FB post and was intrigued. Every time I make a quilt the question is "who is this quilt for". Well this quilt is for me. The quilt making technique was to purchase 4 dahlia panels and cut each panel into four equals parts. Then you rearrange them. Number each cut part or you may end up with a problem. I labeled each piece but still was a challenge to put this puzzle together. Will post the final quilt when I finish quilting it.

This next quilt is a wedding quilt for my nephew and his new bride. This quilt pattern is from Missouri Star Quilt Company--Easy Carpenter Star quilt measuring 83" by 83".

The next quilt is a baby quilt for a sweet church friend. Ronnie James Davis was born last week weighing 8 pounds 3 oz. What a blessing to have another sweet baby in our church.

Oh, how I have loved scrappy applique quilts. This was my first attempt. This went to my granddaughter who wanted to hang in her dorm room. She is an artist and this was a good fit for her.

From this morning meditation -- 2 Corinthians 4:7

"Treasure is kept in clay jars. In the same way, we have the treasure of the good news in these earthly bodies of ours. That shows that the mighty power of the good news comes from God. It doesn't come from us." NIV

Archaeologists have found treasures of silver in cheap clay jars. Clay pots and jars were common in the Bible times, and thousands were made. But they were sometimes used to store valuable and previous things. We are God's clay pots "holding an unspeakable great treasure." (David Guzik)

Sharing Time

The quilt below was made for my new great niece Kylie Joy V. She is so adorable and has so much love around her. In case you do not notice, this is a Mississippi State Bulldog family.

Visit from Michigan grands and friends. The temperature was even chilly for Michigan grands. They each grabbed a quilt to enjoy the back porch. A couple of the quilts were made by Sonny's grandmother out of clothing scraps. I called them "ugly" quilts but once quilted are the most cuddly of any quilt I have made. The one in the foreground is made by me and one of my favorite patterns. The second photo was a mystery quilt I made. Oh how I loved seeing them wrapped in these quilts.

This last photo is fun--a cartoon of me which made me smile. I dislike photos of myself and rarely will you find a photo me.

Have a nice day! May God bless anyone viewing this blog showing snippets of my quilts and life.

March 2021

Just a few photos of my lastest projects. Making quilts will begin today.

We have had a few nice days so Hubby has had very successful fishing days. Here are a couple of photos of us fishing. Notice who fishes and who reads.

This is an Amish doll made from a panel. I just love it. So fun to make.

This picture shows two chair covers I made for a church friend. Look at the beautiful McCarty bowl she gifted to me. Oh swoon--the picture does not do it justice.

This is a happy I made for our pastor's daughter. I love to fill my Bibles with paperclip bookmarks. Hope to make someone happy with a few for themselves.

What does Hubby do on a rainy day during quarantine--why he tries out my longarm and quilts a "big ugly" quilt for his deer camp bed. You know when you quilt a "bit ugly" quilt, it takes on a brand new life of its own. We love quilts and that is the truth!

My dear brother has a blog PawPaw's Ponderings. I think this was his first post and it was published in the Mississippi Magazine March/April 2021. His writings are so heart warming.

Lastly, this is my Easter wreath. It has happy Spring colors. I enjoy making the wreaths. I just enjoy making crafts.

Now--it is time to go quilting!

2020 Projects

 Happy New Year

Looking so forward to this new year. So far it has been a lot of the same. Family having Covid, losing friends from Covid complications, churches struggling to keep open and offer a community for each of us. Sounds like doom and gloom but we know who holds tomorrow and know HE has a plan. And that is the Gospel Truth!

So I spend lots of time in my crafting space. Right now my quilting space needs some clean up. I have too many projects awaiting. I love quilting (the whole process), my Cricut, my embroidery machines, my Accuquilt, my Bernina 880--the list could go on.

This week I have worked on kids Bible lessons for the ages 0 to grade 5 for Redemption Kids. I am subbing for the Children's Ministry Leader who is under the weather. All my children's ministry "stuff" is also in my craft space. I even have shelves built in the attic which is right off my craft space. My wonderful, loving, and talented husband keeps me happy with any project that comes to my mind. He is my encourager and in control of the hammer.

This post will be picture overload, but is a sample of my fall and winter quarantine projects.

First -- my quilts

This first one is "A Star is Born" by Claudia Creations. The embroidery was done with many, many hoopings. It was a challenge, but I love it and am proud I finished it after one year of looking at it and wondering how I would finish it. The quilt is custom quilted by me. Under the first photo are closer shots of each part.

Next photo is of my parotitic flag quilt. Why did I ever think I could do this quilt quickly. That was a joke. I found Cathedral Windows pattern is not for me. I did it once in my life. Two photos--first picture quilt on the floor and second the quilt is hanging in my quilting studio.

The next photos shows a new craft. I live in a dream neighborhood. I want pretty wreaths hanging on my door. I am learning but have not done the January wreath. Here are an October, November, and December wreaths. (My blog is really for me to keep up with projects I undertake.)

Oh, about my nice neighborhood. Here is a photo taken on election day at our polling place. Isn't it beautiful! Record turnout in this neighborhood.

The back of our home with lights on fence and pier. You cannot see, but my quilting studio is above the lighted back porch.

Next are just a few projects

Facemasks for trip to Disney World (one son and family)

Towel Cowls for daughters-in-law -- Christmas happies

Also, notebook covers for Christmas happies

This is a notebook cover for a former human-trafficked teen. We are so blessed to have a church member whose job is to help these teens and women. The second photo is a picture of just some of the items I included in a Christmas box of requested items.

One other photo--

Jaime, my daughter-in-law, is a talented artist. She created the following photo to go on a wall at the children's hospital. The two babies represent children she knew who were in the hospital when they were babies. The quilting influence--wonder where she picked that up! Needless to say I am very proud of Jaime and all she does. (I should say I am proud of all my daughters-in-law. We are so blessed! They each are special in their own way.)

The End
