2020 Projects

 Happy New Year

Looking so forward to this new year. So far it has been a lot of the same. Family having Covid, losing friends from Covid complications, churches struggling to keep open and offer a community for each of us. Sounds like doom and gloom but we know who holds tomorrow and know HE has a plan. And that is the Gospel Truth!

So I spend lots of time in my crafting space. Right now my quilting space needs some clean up. I have too many projects awaiting. I love quilting (the whole process), my Cricut, my embroidery machines, my Accuquilt, my Bernina 880--the list could go on. 

This week I have worked on kids Bible lessons for the ages 0 to grade 5 for Redemption Kids. I am subbing for the Children's Ministry Leader who is under the weather. All my children's ministry "stuff" is also in my craft space. I even have shelves built in the attic which is right off my craft space. My wonderful, loving, and talented husband keeps me happy with any project that comes to my mind. He is my encourager and in control of the hammer.

This post will be picture overload, but is a sample of my fall and winter quarantine projects.

First -- my quilts

This first one is "A Star is Born" by Claudia Creations. The embroidery was done with many, many hoopings. It was a challenge, but I love it and am proud I finished it after one year of looking at it and wondering how I would finish it. The quilt is custom quilted by me. Under the first photo are closer shots of each part.

Next photo is of my parotitic flag quilt. Why did I ever think I could do this quilt quickly. That was a joke. I found Cathedral Windows pattern is not for me. I did it once in my life. Two photos--first picture quilt on the floor and second the quilt is hanging in my quilting studio.

 

The next photos shows a new craft. I live in a dream neighborhood. I want pretty wreaths hanging on my door. I am learning but have not done the January wreath. Here are an October, November, and December wreaths. (My blog is really for me to keep up with projects I undertake.)

Oh, about my nice neighborhood. Here is a photo taken on election day at our polling place. Isn't it beautiful! Record turnout in this neighborhood.

This is a notebook cover for a former human-trafficked teen. We are so blessed to have a church member whose job is to help these teens and women. The second photo is a picture of just some of the items I included in a Christmas box of requested items.

One other photo--

Jaime, my daughter-in-law, is a talented artist. She created the following photo to go on a wall at the children's hospital. The two babies represent children she knew who were in the hospital when they were babies. The quilting influence--wonder where she picked that up! Needless to say I am very proud of Jaime and all she does. (I should say I am proud of all my daughters-in-law. We are so blessed! They each are special in their own way.)

Summer and Pandemic Projects

This will be a little photo heavy. This summer I have been working on finishing some quilts. I have three quilts in the works, I just need to quilt them. One is a Christmas quilt and I want that completed before Christmas. 

First Finish

The quilt below is a quilt for my 17 year old grandson, Nikolas. He had a Nemo quilt when a toddler and really never liked it. I do not blame him--so he gets a new quilt. I had a jelly roll with beautiful blue fabric. I had been saving it because I loved the colors and wanted it for something special. I did a jelly roll quilt which I love to make and they look pretty good completed, I think. I like them. The photos do not do the colors justice.

This is a baby quilt for my great nephew, Jacob.

This is an old quilt that I think maybe 1940s belonging to my friend Ann. The quilt was all hand sewn--every piece. I lightly custom quilted. Turned out very sweet.

The last couple of days I have been working on a cloth book. I think it is my first, but I may have made one for one of my boys a long time ago. 

I could not send the file through email, so decided to post on my blog. It was fun to make, even though the directions were not the best and took a little guessing.

This "Shelter in Place" has been about 9 weeks. What on earth have we been doing. Well, my husband, Sonny, has fished and worked on different projects. He has a deer camp where he can escape and a screened back porch, a pier, and a lake. He loves to keep up with his church cell group, church friends, and other friends via texting and telephone calls.

I have made lots of facemasks and scrub hats. I have kept busy in my quilt room/studio.

Just for my record and to look back and remember. Below are photos of just a few facemasks I have made. I have made different styles. I have made masks with and without pleats and with elastic, regular ties, and t-shirt ties. I have tried many different techniques. Thought I may be through making masks, but my maids who come every two weeks did not have masks this morning so I told her I would make them some. I am one of those quilters who have a readymade stash of fabric.

These are a few of the scrub hats I made. These particular scrub masks were cut out by ladies at my niece's church. All I had to do was sew them together. That was so nice. I tried different ways to make men and ladies scrub hats. Some I made with my serger and some with my sewing machine. The ladies scrub hats were so much cuter! 

Below--These cute rug mugs are "in the hoop" mug rugs. I think I have made 19 rug mugs to give as a happy for Mother's Day. I love "in the hoop" anything except the facemask. The FaceMasks were too small for an adult. Have a new Cricut Maker and will try cutting out with their pattern. All this is so fun for me. The Cricut was not what I wanted. I have elastic and that is what I used. I cut them out and have made 8 today.

I am the oldest person in my church, but I teach Ages 3-5 Sunday School. I make lessons for them each week and send via GroupMe. With the help of my wonderful husband, we have made a few videos. Oh, and I even have my own BitMoji which greets you with this post. How cool is that! Our lives are full with many blessings. We give thanks to our Lord each and every day--many times. 

T-Shirt Quilt

Since it is after Christmas, I can post this T-Shirt Quilt.

December Post #2

This is one of my Christmas Quilts. I just love it. I like scrappy. I have been under the weather and have not been able to find a place to take a photo of this large quilt. So I placed it on my dining table. That was fun!

I love the pink tones in this photo. 

December Quilting #1

Here is a quilt I finished for my “baby brother”. He retired from Mississippi Stay University after working there over 30 years. This was his retirement gift. Hope he has many years of retirement and never gets bored—which he won't. We are one of those families who know how to keep busy during retirement. We do not know the word bored.

The colors for MSU are maroon and white so I put some maroon squares in the quilt. It is not fancy because I want him to use it and enjoy it.

I did not get many photos of it.

Natalia Bonner Quilting

I had the honor of taking quilting classes with Natalia. I was an awful student and hope she would never remember me. However, she began in July quilting one block a day for one year. I made my own quilt to work with. You will really need almost 7 quilt tops. I honestly am going to begin back working on the rest of the blocks. I could not believe how much better I became but also more confident. I plan to do all the blocks. I am posting the finished quilt and a few of the blocks. It is sooooo much fun!!!
