A Little Catching Up

 Just a little catching up on projects not posted in a few months. I stay busy in my quilting room. It is my happy place. I always apologize for the photo quality. I imagine one day learning how to take a better picture.

This first quilt is one I love, but the picture does not do the colors justice. It is 55" by 55" and made of Free Spirit fabrics which are so bright and cheery. It is from a book called "Happy Hour" and I have made so many quick quilts from this book.

This next quilt is made from the scraps of the above quilt appropriately named "Secondhand Strips Quilt". It is about 58.5" by 75.5". It was so fun and was claimed by one of my granddaughters who helped me with the quilt.

This next quilt is a girl baby quilt for a special lady in my church. It is a disappearing nine patch with sashing and cornerstones added -- another go-to pattern.

This is another baby quilt for another special friend in our church. Just a patchwork of squares of blues with a touch of yellow. The backing was pieced with from leftover fabric and I added the baby's name in block letters cut from my Accuquilt.

This next photo are three dolls I made with my dear friend, Janet. She had a friend who had a nephew born without a thumb. The doctors will perform surgery to add a thumb using his pointing finger. We made the "Dolls like me" for each of the three sisters. The hands were a challenge!!!

Next-- a look at my Christmas stockings I made from Shabby Fabrics. They were so much fun and so adorable.

I have posted this next picture several years ago but never had a full view of the quilt. I found this and wanted to post it just for me.

The next few pictures are of my "travel quilt". This hexagon quilt has been in progress since 2008. The hexes for been from Port Gibson, MS to Peru (8 times), New Zealand, Alaska, Colorado, Illinois, New York, Shipshewanna, Gatlinburg and all the states in between. I have finally finished it. The ladies in one of my favorite quilts shops in Gatlinburg picked out the gray border. No other color seemed to work. I did add the border to protect the sides of the quilt. I am not sure how long the points would stay points if handled. After so many years in the making, I did not think I had another 10+ years to handquilt, so I used my Gammill Elevate to quilt it and get it finished. It was about time!

This last photo is a picture of some fleece throw blankets I purchased. I added a "patch" with embroidered saying -- "Jesus loves me this much", "God's Love Never Fails", "Hope", "You are fearfully and wonderfully made", "You are Special", "With God, All Things are Possible", and "For I Know the Plans I Have for You, Declares the Lord." These blankets will be used by a church friend who works with young women. Imagine the feeling of wrapping in a warm and soft blanket . . . .

Picture Overload

Oh, I have been gone a while. My husband and I have moved from the country to the city about 80 miles distance. We sold our home and land and RV Park. We moved to the city and we love it here. We love our church and all the new people we have met. We have had a wonderful Christmas season beginning with all the Christmas cantatas. Today, we enjoyed my niece's Christmas program. My great niece was Baby Jesus. She was so good and my heart just was about to burst with thankfulness.  

I have made a couple of quilts since moving to my new home. I have a nice big room upstairs for all my quilting stuff. I could spend all day, everyday in my studio. Sonny has a new deer camp that is within an hour from here and has enjoyed running up there for an afternoon. We are so happy in our new home.

The first quilt is for a raffle for my granddaughters. One or two are raising money for a trip to Spain. They asked if I would make two quilts. This is the first one. The pictures do not do the quilt justice. It is really a fun quilt.

The second quilt was for my sweet great niece born early this year. It is a Sunbonnet Sue quilt. I just love Sunbonnet Sue quilts. The first Sunbonnet Sue quilt I saw was when I was in elementary school and my friend had quilts on all the beds in her house--one being a Sunbonnet Sue.

Wanted to post a photo of my granddaughter's shirt. I used Circut and heat press on the polyester to add their names and it did beautifully. I also replaced the buttons with medal snaps. These are some talented young ladies.

Here are a couple of Christmas projects. Christmas pillow made using my Bernina embroidery machine and Bernina machine to complete pillow.

I just had to make this crooked Christmas Tree. I tried to sew the binding with the sewing machine and did not like it as much as my regular binding method.

Christmas Eve Eve

During November and December I worked on Christmas Table Runners. I made six for my daughters-in-law and two nieces. I hope they will enjoy.

Finally Finished and Delivered

This is a quilt that is finally finished and delivered. It was fun to quilt. Mary Claire was married 1 1/2 years ago on December 27. This is her Christmas quilt--Sweet Scandinavian.

It is February 4, 2016

Today is the fourth day of February. Oh! My! 2016 will pass us by as quickly as 2015. The weather is beautiful and the sky very blue. 

Love this Bible verse I read in that fabulous chapter of Isaiah 55.

"...so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it."  Isaiah 55:11 What a great promise to dwell.

Today I will try to finish the binding on the quilt below. I will share photos and more information of the completed quilt. I had so much fun quilting it freehand. I am and will always be a novice at this, but quilting is so much fun.

This is just a photo of a finished quilt that is on my bed all year. I saw a quote "a bed without a quilt is like the sky without stars". I love sleeping under a quilt, especially one I made, and then add the stars given to all by the Lord--what more could we ask. This was a Bonnie Hunter "quilt along" quilt. Oh, I took the photo to show off my new Lands End cranberry sheets. 

Christmas Decorating

I like a minimum of Christmas decorations. Even simple takes time. My decorating is a work in progress.

So far I have tired something different with the stairs and balcony. Think I may add another Christmas tree to the balcony, but will wait until rest is cleaned and ready to go.

I set these candles in a drawer from my grandmother's dresser. She used the drawer for her sewing supplies. I have been using it in my quilt studio but saw a post on Quiltville's Instagram and she had been given a similar arrangement, so I thought I would use mine.
