Baby, it's cold outside. It is so cold outside that I have stayed indoors and worked on my hexagon quilt. I began it in 2008 or 2009. So I have decided to get the quilt finished THIS YEAR--my 10 year quilt. 

I work on this quilt when I travel. It has been from Mississippi to New York (three times), Gatlinburg (lots of times), Michigan (more than 10 times), to Colorado and Wyoming, Indiana and states in between, then on seven mission trips. Many of the green hexies were sewn late one night in an overnight stay in Lima, Peru airport. 

I still have four more rows. Since it has taken so many years, I am wondering "do I hand quilt or machine quilt"? I am leaning toward machine quilting, because I may never finish it if it takes ten years to quilt.

First Day of September

Well, hello, September. 

I just wrote a blog post and some way I deleted it. So I guess what I said was not too important. 

Here is my Grandmother's Quilt. This time last year my eleven grandchildren, ages 2-12, drew a photo on a sheet of paper and my art teacher daughter-in-law transferred the photos to fabric. I have just finished the quilt and really just smile every time I look at the quilt. My grandchildren are each unique individuals and I love each and every one and can see them in each of their drawings. 

I struggled with the quilting. The photo fabric was a little too stiff to quilt. I did get to practice quilting the black and white squares and feel a little more confident. I will now move on to a queen size Irish Chain that I have put off quilting--two years of procrastinating.

About five or six years ago I began a grandmother's flower garden quilt. I would make one or two flowers as I traveled over the years. My hexagons traveled with me on my five trips to Peru. On this last trip to Michigan I finished the last of the 63 flowers to make 9 rows with 7 flowers across. Now, on to the 1084 white and green hexes to connect the 63 flowers. Oh, my! The journey begins. I hope this does not take 5 or 6 years.

After Surgery

See what can be done while waiting for hubby to have surgery. He is doing great and we are so very thankful. God is so good and we are so blessed. (Oh, I just finished two hexagons at the hospital.)

Sunday

My posts have been slim and few between. I have several WIP and have been working on them in what little spare time I have had.

I wanted to post a project that I have begun, and I can work on this when Sonny is watching "Dirtiest Jobs" or when I travel, take parents to doctor visits, . . . take with me tomorrow when my husband has back surgery. He has been in lots of pain and we are hoping for instant relief.

I love the hexagons. My mother asked how long it would take to make a quilt. I am not sure but know all quilts are "one stitch at a time." Anyway, hexagons are cheerful! (I am using the English piecing method. See tutorial at SewManyWays)
