Oh, still cool in the South. Ready for Spring and sunshine.

My retired hubby and I found some sunshine this morning to take photos outside. 

Before Christmas I began working on Bonnie Hunter's Celtic Solstice. I thought I would never finish that quilt. I question sometimes if I am really a quilter when trying to cut so accurately and sew so accurately. However, I was tremendously please that after 51 blocks--26 blocks each with 52 pieces and 25 blocks each with about 32 pieces--the border blocks fit perfectly. I was truly amazed! Everyone who sees this quilt loves the circles. They just appeared by magic. 

This past week I have been working on two prayer quilts. The first quilt is for a 21-month old girl, Abby Grace, who has cancer. She is so precious. You can follow her progress on Caring Bridge. The quilt measures 41" x 46", I think. :-)

The second prayer quilt is for 16-year old Devonte who had a seizure that left him in a a bad way. He does not have long to live. The knots in the thread on top represent the prayers said over the quilt.

Sharing Recipe

Oh, this was so easy and very good. I am not sure where I found the recipe but glad I did.

Crockpot Beef Stroganoff Recipe


2 pounds cubed stew meat
2 cans Condensed Golden Mushroom Soup
1 largish onion diced
2-3-4 tabls of Worcestershire 
1/2 cup water
8 oz of cream cheese (added just before serving)
couple of dashes of Garlic Salt (1 tsp?)
couple dashes of Hot Paprika 

In the slow cooker stir in all the ingredients together, (except the meat AND the Cream Cheese). Once combined add the meat and mix together.

Cook on Low for 8 hours. 

Cut up the cream cheese into cubes just before serving and turn crockpot on high. Stir the cream cheese in until all combined. You might have to put the lid back on and leave for 10 minutes.

So good to freeze BEFORE adding the cream cheese. Just re-heat on the stove and add cream cheese 10 minutes before serving. The meat becomes even more tender when reheated after freezing-perfect for toast.

Too Long

I cannot believe today is the third day of March in 2014. Looking at my planned activities takes me to the middle of September. Then Christmas will be staring us in the face.

Wanted to post one of my Christmas projects. Again, not a good photo....

The first photo is of my Christmas tree skirt. I made two of them and really liked the outcome.

I have also been working on a Bonnie Hunter Mystery Quilt -- Celtic Solstice. I am in the process of finishing the top. This is a photo of the quilt before sewing together. I will also all three borders to this quilt. I love the way the circles are created. Looks like the difficult quilt that it is. Sure hope the quilt police do not come after me. Sonny has claimed this quilt and it will go on our bed and not many will ever see it.

Since this is my blog and not Facebook, I can say just this and not hurt any one's feelings -- one lady who had made this quilt, commented on Facebook her mother said this was the ugliest quilt she had ever seen. I have loved each quilt made from this pattern and posted on the Celtic Solstice Facebook page. I can say my mother nor my mother-in-law nor my grandmother would have ever said that to me or anyone. In fact, no one in my family would think of uttering a negative, hurtful comment as that. I am so thankful to have a loving Christian family. I am my own worst critic. 

True story--we had a visiting preacher eating dinner with us. He was rather a funny man who was always teasing and having a little fun. He showed my grandmother a horrid picture of a smiling, toothless woman and claimed her to be his wife. Without hesitation, my grandmother said, "Well, isn't she sweet!" 

Busy, Busy, Busy

Oh, the Christmas season kept me busy. I created two Christmas tree skirts. This is first one. The center cutout looks a little rough, but that was not easy to do. Anyway, I was in a hurry and did not take time to fix it. The other, which was very similar except for quilting pattern, was given as a "Dirty Santa" gift.

Chevrons

I wanted to see if I could add pockets and crosses to t-shirts. I only had red chevron material as you can tell. I am about 45 minutes from the nearest quilt store, so I used what I had. I originally purchased the chevron material for the reversible purse which is shown below. Not sure if I will use any of them--I just had a few hours of fun in my quilt shack. 

Fresh Mini Quilt #2

This is the second Fresh Mini Quilt I have completed. I have one more that needs quilting and hope to finish soon. I have enjoyed making these small quilts. I truly need to work on my star points especially the ones that end on the edges of the quilt. 

Purple Passion and Snap Happy

This quilt is called Purple Passion. I found this pattern which needed two fabrics. I had a large piece of left over Cusco fabric so decided to use it. I have a passion for star quilts hence Purple Passion. It is 40 inches by 40 inches so makes a perfect lap quilt. 

Snap Happy

This is my Snap Happy project. Had a good time making it and want to improve on following directions and make some more. This one is about 7" by 7". Cute happy to have to give as gifts.

Two Posts in One Day

I joined the Fresh Mini Quilt Club -- at Canon Ridge Creations. This was our first month's mini quilt. I just love it on my table. The back is so pretty, I have two quilts in one.

Just a comment--I have been quilting with a longarm quilting machine for a couple of years. My lighting was awful but I really did not want to put out big bucks for lighting. So my husband put together a lighting bar and it is now incredibly bright. I just love it and know I will have many years of enjoyment out of it. Now, if my free hand quilting would improve. --yes, when pigs fly. I might add a photo when quilt shack is clean. I usually clean between projects.

Long Time -- No posts

This has been a busy year. I have not done a lot of quilting. I sure miss it.

Here is a quilt I finally got mailed. Sure hope Lily Grace got her quilt.

Just loaded this quilt. Now to decide how to quilt--think I will use hearts and flowers.

First of the Year Post

Oh, I cannot believe this is my first post of 2013. Where did January go? I really have been busy.

The first two photos are two baby quilts for a new grand niece, Sarah Frances, and a grand nephew, Oby.

I fell in love with the material for the first quilt. The material is called 'Lil Rascals. Baby Oby is named after my brother and we loved to watch the TV show The Little Rascals. I just had to make this quilt. This quilt was about 54 x 42, I think.

 

 

This next quilt for my grand niece was a Moda Bake Shop favorite. I just had to make it. It is a car seat quilt. I added ties on each side of the quilt. Size is about 25 x 30. My granddaughter, Josie Clare, just loved this quilt.

Now this quilt is one I saw and wanted to make. My family always ask, "Now whose quilt is this?" I guess it is my quilt for now. The pattern is Hubble. I used Moda Cuzco collection and I had to have this fabric. I could not resist a fabric named after one of my favorite places--Cusco, Peru. I have posted a few photos because it was a beautiful day to take pictures. This quilt is about 70 x 70.

 

 



All the quilts were quilted on my Gammill longarm machine by me.

Christmas Projects

Sharing a couple of Christmas projects. How I wish I would start my projects back in the summer. I so enjoy working in my quilt shack.

I needed a Christmas runner for the table and saw this table runner on a blog (that has since been removed from that blog) and knew it would be quick and simple. I was not quite prepared for the appliqueing--it takes time and patience. I used my Accuquilt to cut shapes but had to improvise the star.

My next project was to be for our "Dirty Santa" but after making it, I decided it looked so "me" and my taste is a little bit "old-fashioned" for my daughters-in-law and nieces. I saw this pillow with red ticking, burlap back, and a strip with an outline of the our state in red paint at Mistletoe Marketplace and thought "oh, I can make that"--and I did.  I may make other strips to change--heart for Valentine, flower for May, last name initial, map of state, etc.

The next project -- I have been intrigued with the painted signs on Pinterest and wanted to give it a try. (My projects never seem to match up to Pinterest photos--oh, well.) Here's my try at a sign. What makes it so special is the wood is from our torn down (fallen down) tractor shed. I will treasure my signs. I also plan to make more signs and will hang in a prominent home in my kitchen. The nail holes and texture add to  the message and makes it unique.

1600 Jellyroll Quilt At Last

I heard about the 1600 Strip Jellyroll Quilt when visiting at my parent's assisted living home. This super lady who owns a quilt shop comes to the assisted living every Tuesday to share with the ladies and just have a good time sewing and talking. Many resident ladies just sit and give their opinions. When the leader of the quilting bee shared the idea of the 1600 quilt, I was intrigued.

So I bought Moda "Hello Luscious" jellyroll that I just loved. I sat down to the sewing machine and had a quilt top in two hours. I was amazed. So here is that fun quilt.

The quilt began by sewing strips end to end--ending with a 1600 inch strip.

 

The process begins-- (if you need tutorial, search Google for 1600 quilt pattern.)

The quilt measures about 58 x 64. I used one jellyroll, 3 yards of fabric (but would buy a little more next time), and 1/2 yard for binding.

Wanted to share my label. I think it is so cute. I chose not to put a large label.

This was such a fun and quick quilt and could be finished in a couple of days--start to finish. I chose to quilt in an all-over pantograph, but one friend just quilted it by stitching on the seams with a fancy/fun stitch.

Good Morning

I decided to post a new comment today because I am get tired of seeing the same post for months. Sonny and I have been busy. I am not sure what we are doing, but quilting is not happening around here. Makes me sad--I have so many projects in mind and started. I really have been working on a queen size quilt, and it has lots of applique, so that has slowed down progress on the quilt. I cannot wait to get it on the quilting machine. Quilt photos later.

You would think I had a "Bucket List" with my experiences since June:

First, Sonny and I, traveled on my fourth (his fifth) Peru Mission (June 2012). We love Peru and our friends there. Here is a photo of me as I arrived at the top of the Sun Gate (8924 feet) at Machu Picchu.



Then in July we traveled to one of my favorite places to visit--Shipshewanna, IN. We met our son and his family there and had a great time. The highlight was having our grandson, Nikolas, traveling with us.

On Labor Day weekend we traveled to Michigan to camp with my son and his family. First time in a tent.

We spent a day on Mackinaw Island where we enjoyed an 8-mile bike ride around the island on Lake Huron.

This is me at the finish of the 5-mile walk across the Mackinaw Bridge on Labor Day. Fun time had by all!

Six days and over 2000 miles in a car -- Home Again!
